Market Needs

As energy companies increasingly focus on unlocking stranded reserves and enhancing recovery from fields with low wellhead temperatures, high wax content, and hydrate risks, our technology provides the ideal solution to mitigate these challenges.

In many subsea developments, particularly those involving deepwater and remote locations, maintaining flow assurance is a significant challenge. The combination of low temperatures and the risk of hydrates forming or wax deposition can hinder the transportation of hydrocarbons. Conventional insulation systems may not offer the necessary thermal performance to handle such constraints.

Our Insulated Subsea Flowlines provide the best insulation available in the market, enabling the safe and efficient transport of hydrocarbons. The low U-values achieved by our systems ensure the prevention of wax build-up and hydrate formation, while also enabling long or single-line tiebacks. This means operators can reach stranded reserves more effectively and increase return on investment of their projects.

Why PiP?

Our Insulated Subsea Flowlines are designed to provide superior thermal performance whilst being adapted to installation by a variety of vessels. The key to our solution lies in our innovative insulation material, Izoflex, and the advanced field-joint technology.

Insulated subsea flowline
    • Izoflex® Insulation: The core of our subsea insulation system is Izoflex, which offers exceptional thermal conductivity of just 0.007 W/m·K—at least twice as good as the next best alternative. This high-performance insulation ensures that subsea pipelines can maintain the required temperatures for flow assurance, even in challenging conditions. Additionally, Izoflex’s compressive strength means it can be used without centralizers, reducing the need for additional components and simplifying fabrication.

  • Insulated Field-Joint Sleeve: For rapid and robust installation, we use an insulated field-joint sleeve, combined with our Sleevelox® fast-curing resin. This technology allows PiP to be installed with a single offshore weld in S- and J-lay configuration. This field-joint system reduces installation risks and costs,  whilst maintain high thermal efficiency and mechanical strength.
  • Installation Flexibility: Our Subsea Flowlines can be adapted to the installation vessels, allowing for rapid deployment depending on the project needs:
      • S- and J-lay systems: Discrete PiP joints with insulated field-joint sleeves provide installation rates similar to that of single-walled pipe, even in deepwater.

    • Reeled systems: The exceptionally low thermal conductivity of Izoflex® enables compact PiP solutions that optimize reeled installation. In addition centralisers are not require, avoiding heat-leak and cost. PiP can that be installed in longer lengths, potentially  reducing the reeled vessels voyages, saving time and costs.

Your Benefits

Our Insulated Subsea Flowlines offer significant technological and economic advantages for operators, helping to address key challenges in subsea projects. With improved thermal performance and installation flexibility, our solution provides a reliable option for enhancing production.

  • Enhanced Production: The excellent performance of the pipeline reduce flow disruptions caused by wax deposition and hydrate formation. This results in enhance production, longer no-touch times and minimized the need for chemical injection.
  • Cost-Effective: The efficient Izoflex insulation and rapid field-joint technology can reduce materials and installation costs while reducing project CAPEX and risks. The excellent U-values also enables subsea architectures and reduces the need for chemical injection, lowing life of field OPEX.
  • Scalable and Flexible: Our insulation systems are designed to be adaptable, with fabrication and installation methods that can be adjusted to suit project conditions, enabling us to provide best-for-project solutions.
  • Rapid Installation: Whether using S- and J-lay or reeled systems, our flowlines can be deployed quickly and effectively, minimizing the risk of project delays and reducing installation time and costs.
