“The Rosa field is located offshore Angola at a distance of 10 to 16 kilometers from the spread-moored Girassol FPSO. Water depth in the area is about 1,350 meters. The Rosa Development Project proposes to tieback the Rosa wells to the Girassol FPSO. This project had to handle new challenges in deepwater West Africa: very stringent flow assurance requirements and cool down criteria for subsea production system, for long-length flowlines and for risers in cold environment.

This paper describes the concepts and technologies selected, then the analyses and tests performed for design qualification. Lessons learned from the Rosa experience are shown, in particular regarding passive thermal insulation.”

  • 2005 – OPT Conference and Exhibition – TOTAL and WEATHERFORD - Scale assessment pigging of the TOTAL DUNBAR 16” Multi-phase Pipeline

  • “The 16” Dunbar Pipeline, operated by TOTAL E&P UK PLC, transports raw multi-phase fluids 22km from the Dunbar platform to the North Alwyn Bravo platform in the North Sea. The pipeline was commissioned in 1994 and a metal lossinspection with an intelligent pig was successfully completed in 1997.
Video inspections of the pipeline conducted in recent years indicated a significant deposition of scale in the topside and riser pipework at the Dunbar platform. Initial attempts to assess the extent of the scale build-up in the risers and pipeline were only partially successful, and by the summer of 2003 the deposition was estimated to have restricted the remaining internal diameter at the top of the riser to less than 10”.

This paper, jointly presented by Weatherford and TOTAL, describes the development work undertaken, as well as summarising the results of the inspection runs carried out with both SAAM and the caliper pig during 2004.”

  • 2006– Offshore Magazine May 06 – North Sea Forvie field overcomes technical challenges of long-distance pipe-in-pipe

  • “The choice of pipe-in-pipe for this project was critical not just in terms of flow assurance, but also due to offshore installation issues. With demand for pipelay vessels at near-record levels, laying spreads can be difficult to secure for fasttrack projects. This meant that Forvie’s pipe-in-pipe had to be installable by each North Sea offshore contractor. Moreover, the field jointing process had to be as rapid as possible in order to shorten the required pipelay window (thereby increasing the potential vessel availability”

  • 2006 – Batuque June 06 – ROSA – Innovating Technologies

  • 2007– Offshore Engineer Feb 07 – HFI finds favour for Forvie pipe-in-pipe

  • “A specially insulated pipe-in-pipe with seamless inner pipes and outer HFI-pipes was designed and installed to avoid hydrate build-up during transport of production from the Forvie North gas field to the host Alwyn North platform in the Northern North Sea. “
